Glen Orbik - R.I.P.

Readers of Hard Case Crime will be familiar with the artist Glen Orbik. His output was outstanding, much of it harking back to the old pulp and noir covers of yesteryear. He died on 11 May, aged 52, too young to go.

Writing – Market – Rough Edges Press anthologies

Fancy writing an exciting 1930s/1940s adventure yarn with plenty of action and thrills? Fancy writing an alternative history short story?  Well, get busy, as there’s a waiting market for both.

James Reasoner* announced a while back that Rough Edges Press was going to be publishing an anthology of new Weird Menace stories inspired by the "Shudder Pulps" such as DIME MYSTERY, TERROR TALES, HORROR STORIES, and SPICY MYSTERY. This anthology is still open for submissions. He has ‘some excellent stories on hand, creepy tales from some of today's finest authors; but he needs more! If you're a fan of those tales, get writing. Stories with plenty of action and a headlong pace to go with a strong sense of menace and dread. Stories should be between 7500 and 10,000 words, although if they go a little longer than that it won't be a problem.

Deadline for these tales – 1 June.

In addition, he has announced that Rough Edges Press will be also be publishing an anthology of Alternate History stories. There's no particular theme for this anthology; take an important event in history, historical characters who are famous, infamous, or obscure, and change that history. Classic "What if?" tales. These stories should also range from 7500 to 10,000 words, approximately, and can take place anywhere, during any era.

Deadline for Alternate History tales – 1 July.

Payment is a share in the royalties for each anthology.

Submissions for both anthologies should be emailed as attached Word documents to james53@flash.net.

New Zealand based Silver Screen Books is looking to publish 2-4 novelettes each month, in kindle and paperback. The theme of Silver Screen is B Movies from the 50s and onward.  They are looking for ‘zany, fun adventures in Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Action-Adventure’.  Think dime store pulp mixed with B-movie plots. 

Silver Screen Imprint will pay the following for submissions:
