With love and nastiness in juxtaposition

I was pleasantly surprised to find a new review for my book Blood of the Dragon Trees on Amazon, so here’s an excerpt:

“… it revolves around the illicit trade in endangered species, not to mention illegal immigration, so it’s a novel with a message.

“Plenty going on in the relationship sphere too, with love and nastiness in juxtaposition, and the Spanish police get more than just a look in, providing some interesting insights into their modus operandi. What with enough sex to keep the voyeur brigade on the edge of their seats and some cutting-edge violence in between the reader has little opportunity to relax – or fall asleep.

“The ending is not to be revealed, incorporating a subtle twist. Read and ye shall find!

“In passing I should mention that I was originally drawn to this book by the links mentioned in CATACLYSM, one of Nik’s series titles that I recently reviewed. The events in CATACLYSM didn’t spoil my enjoyment of BLOOD OF THE DRAGON TREES even though the latter title was published first.”

Thank you “Stuart” from Hudson, Quebec, Canada, no less – a far-flung fan indeed!

I was particularly pleased to see that the reader was drawn to the book having read Cataclysm. There is a certain amount of interlinking between some of my books – Spanish Eye, Blood of the Dragon Trees, and ‘The Avenging Cat’ series – but they can all be appreciated as stand-alone novels and even be read in any order.

The blurb:
Tigers slaughtered to cure pimples!

Laura Reid likes her new job on Tenerife, teaching the Spanish twins Maria and Ricardo Chávez. She certainly doesn’t want to get involved with Andrew Kirby and his pal, Jalbala Emcheta, who work for CITES, tracking down illegal traders in endangered species. Yet she’s undeniably drawn to Andrew, which is complicated, as she’s also attracted to Felipe, the brother of her widower host, Don Alonso.

Felipe’s girlfriend Lola is jealous and Laura is forced to take sides – risking her own life – as she and Andrew uncover the criminal network that not only deals in the products from endangered species, but also thrives on people trafficking. The pair are aided by two Spanish lawmen, Lieutenant Vargas of the Guardia Civil and Ruben Salazar, Inspector Jefe del Grupo de Homicidios de las Canarias.

Very soon betrayal and mortal danger lurk in the shadows, along with the dark deeds of kidnapping and clandestine scuba diving…
